vetus exclamatio, prosperitatis vel victoriae indicium; proprie auxilium petentis, urgentisque: quae postea Mutara videtur, in Ι῞ε Παίανι. Ita enim Macrob. Sat. l. 1. c. 17. Hanc vocem, i. e. Ι῞ε Παίαν, confirmâsse fertur Oraculum Delphicum Atheniensibus petentibus opem Dei adversus Amazonas, Theseo regnante. Namque inituros bellum iussit his ipsis verbis semetipsum auxiliatorem invocari hortarique. Factum autem est , contracta ex Iao: quod, ut et , Graeci muturaunt ex Hebraeo Iehova, quemadmodum et Paean, ex Hebr. respexit, ortum: unde idem valet Graecis Iô Paean, quod Hebraeis Iehova Penoch, i. e. Dominus respiciat in nos. Miro Satanae aestu, qui ita Deo honorem raptum sibi vindicare omni ope est annisus. Reliquiae huius exclamationis hodiequeve supersunt, apud Symerones, Occidentalis Indiae populos, qui in choreis aliisque laetitiae, eercitamentis, Yô Peho subinde exclamant. Vide Franc.
